Threshold to door clearance???????

I am making and installing a new wooden threshold on an exterior door. I would like to know what the proper clearance should be to allow for expansion when it is humid. I am making the threshold out of hickory and the door is a wooden panel door. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

After the threshold and weather strip is installed, the clearance will be zero.

The thickest weather strip you can buy for an exterior door in about 1/2", but you might want to aim for a weather strip that is about 1/4". It really doesn't matter which size.

It helps to buy the weatherstrip before you reinstall the threshold so you can get a good fit.
