New Windows...but what kind
Hi,
I am looking to replace my windows in my 1950 home in California. I have seen a variety of windows but need honest advise. Are the cost of Fiberglass windows worth it compared with vinyl. ALso, as it relates to vinyl, can anyone recommend a good brand, the ones I have seen at home depot and lowes seem very low quality.

I've found it difficult to get specific recommendations from this forum. I know the moderator of this forum likes EPI (???), Amerimax, and Sierra Pacific vinyl windows. I've not been able to find these windows in the Tampa Bay area but I think they are well established in your neck of the woods. Also, each maker has several lines, or series of windows. Good Luck!

I've had good luck with my Harvey vinyl windows, though they have only been in my house for a few months now. The quality is very impressive for a vinyl window. The cost is on the high end for vinyl windows but you get what you pay for.
Do not buy offbrand vinyl windows from HD or Lowes - the quality is extremely cheap. I installed them in a 3 season breezeway at my prior house and the quality (and cost) is nowhere near Harvey.

Vinyl window/doors
I just had a bunch of vinyl windows and a patio door installed yesterday. They look great! Take a look at "Anlin." Did a lotta research before making up my mind. I think (for the money) they were the best value. Like you, I live in California so these
viyl windows should be great for you. I don't think I'm allowed to name a contractor on this forum, but if you like, email me and I'll give it to you.

same thing i tell others. go with andersen. just don't get them from home depot. cheaper price = cheaper materials. plus HD isn't a part of Andersens Circle of Excellence dealer ring. which means the only warranties being honored are those made by HD, not Andersen. another good brand, though i'm not sure if they're available out that way, is Paradigm. they do new construction/replacement windows and patio doors, all in vinyl, and sized to your specs. plus they're priced very reasonably. hope that helps.
