interior doors

I am ready to install my first prehung interior door and I have a question. The frame of the prehung door is wider then the wall(stud) of the doorway I am to nail it to. Do I need to center it so the frame has overhang on each side or do I make it flush with one side of the stud or wall and if so, which side?

Why is it wider than your wall thickness? Is the drywall on yet?

If the wall is finished, you would be best off cutting the door jamb down to the correct wall thickness, and then applying iron-on veneer to cover up your sawcut.

This is an older house and the walls are interior walls. There was no drywall installed, just studs and paneling. I guess that about explains it doesn't it..

I see. Well, that's my suggestion. Centering the door will mean that you have to monkey around when you trim the door. Cut it to the correct wall thickness and veneer it. Then the trim will go on normally.
