screen door

I want to put in new screening on my aluminum door. How can I get the old screeing out?

There is probably a rubber spline running around the outside edge. Look for the seam in the spline where it meets, then take a sharp object like an awl or a tiny straight screwdriver and pry the spline out. Once you get it started it should just peel right out. If the spline is old and brittle, it probably can't be reused. But if it is still flexible, you can reuse it when you roll the new screen in. They make a special spline rolling tool to roll screen in place. Be sure the frame is straight and square when you roll the screen in- it's very easy to rack a screen or make it "hourglass shaped" when you roll the new screen in. Its usually a good idea to cut some wooden strips and tape them in place to hold the frame straight as you roll the screen in.
