replacing exterior doors

i am going to replace my back door when i pulled the storm door of it looks like they (previous owners ) put the door that is therenow in an old frame it is like there are two door frames in it right now
.should i rip the old frame out as well ????????
this door is down stairs in my house so it is pars block wall then part brick on both sides of the door

Sounds to me like you'd want to rip everything out. But before you do... A new 36" prehung exterior door with brickmould will measure 40" wide on the outside. You might want to go outside and measure from brick to brick and see what you have for width before deciding what to do. It might be that you have an unusually wide opening from having a wide old wooden door with a sloped sill and wide face trim.

Also, see if you can determine how wide it is between the block on both sides.
