replacing picture window 5/8" or 1''?

low E and argon filled ? size is 48"x72" and is close to a deck .Tempered would probally be needed. Planning on using the wood frame that the old windows are in ,they are in nice shape.the window manufacture says its my choise on the thickness of the window. But not being a window engineer I don't know what would be better . I live in Minnesota .thanks for an answer.

I've replaced lots of IGU's... it's always best to replace them with in IGU of identical thickness. 1" is most common in those old wooden picture windows.

Tempered is probably not required if there is at least 3' of wall below the window. 1" is what you will need since it will be made with 2 pieces of 3/16" or 1/4" glass.
