Door doesn't stay open
We just moved into a 20 year old house. Two doors refuse to remain open. The previous owner had chosen to create a thread "holder" that loops over the knob and is attached to the wall. We have tried shimming at the hinges, but seem to not be able to accomplish this correctly. Would appreciate any tips

hold it!
As the door frame is obviously out of plumb, It will need to be at least partially removed to adjust it.
This might be a real can of worms if the wall is out of plumb.
A band-aid fix would be to install a door stop which holds the door open.
A perfect one here:

or this type from most big box stores:

I am having a very similar problem. My doors are on the same wall but the wall and doors seem to be level. I put a 4' level on the wall, door jam and doors and all of them seem to be between the lines of the bubble on the level. If anything, they are riding on the right side of the bubble.
The doors are opening about half way before they come to their natural resting place.
What would be a good way to fix this?

Just a thought...
But is it possible that the return air is pulling these doors a bit? The return air is about 40 feet from these doors. But, these two doors are in a hall way along with a bath room and all 3 of these doors are not staying completely open.
I dunno.... Just a possibility I suppose.

Hi Bend the hinge pins. Pull the pin set on sidewalk hit pin in center. Install.
I know purist will be aghast at such action. I've heard the hinges will wear out yup the're right, instead of 100 years you will only get 97.
Good Luck Woodbutcher
