Replacement Sash Kits

Anybody have any good advice on makers of wooden sash replacement kits? I need for double hung, wood sash, double pane windows with interior snap on grills. Thanks.

Replacement sash kits`

The only ones I have been able to examine have been Marvins (OK) and Caradco (not so good, to my eye). I would like to see Weathershields product. At the usual discount the Marvins would be about $250/window, clad (std color) with low E dual glazing. Add $100 for Douglas fir and $200 for white oak.

If you are dealing with OLD (50 years plus) wood windows, don't waste your time or money replacing the glass with IG units. 75% to 80% of your energy loss and drafts are through the frame -- NOT THE GLASS! Replace the ENTIRE window.

The window frames are only 20 yrs. old and are in great shape. The only reason to replace anthing is that the seals on the double panes have leaked with the usual discoloration on the glass.

OK -- 20 year old wood frames aren't all that bad. Order new IG units for them and go with it. Order the IG units with whatever grid pattern you choose. The grids will be built INTO to IG units -- not a snap-on thing. The advantage -- you're grids will NEVER get dirty and have to be cleaned!!

I've sold Caradco units and one thing I hated about them is that they do not have a pitched sill on bottom sash. They make due with a large bulb weatherstrip. I also didn't like the fact that the overall thickness of the sash was pretty thin. I've sold Crestline (Weathershield) sash kits and they are thicker, plus you can order various degrees of pitch for the bottom sash. just make sure you measure correctly...I can't stress that enough!

good sash replacement kit

Marvin makes a good replacement system called the tilt pack. They are easy to install and work well as long as your original windows are square. you can get them in either wood or clad sash in several colors and with many glass options. I am unfamiliar with the other companies products as these are the only ones I have put in
