Doors opening into the room

All the doors in my house open into the room. Is there a reason for this?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm putting a 1/2 bath in my basement and the way I designed it, opening the door into the room would hit the vanity by 2 inches. I'm using a 28 inch door and I don't want to make the bath any larger for the door clearance because I have limited space. Opening the door to the outside would solve this problem.

Doors always open into rooms because usually the room is large enough to accomidate it. The exceptions are closets, because those doors are usually kept closed and if the door swung in, you couldn't have shelves!

Your door can swing out if you want... you designed it.

Since you are designing it, why not design in a pocket door. That would solve the in or out swing problem.

Larry, A pocket door is something I had not considered.
Thank you,
