We just got new windows installed - triple pane. The guys installed them from the outside, removing the back stops and then placing them against the interior stops. They only fully caulked around the window on the inside. They put new alumninum trim on the outside and sealed the seams with caulk - that was the only caulk on the outside. So, basically, under the trim, there isn't any caulk around the window or wood, etc. You can see right in the walls in some places (if you were to remove the trim), although they did stuff the windows with insulation. Is this ok - or should they have caulked the window on the outside BEFORE they put the trim on? From the interior, it is sealed, but I worry about the exterior. Will just caulking the alumnimum trim suffice? They told me if would have been a waste of caulk and time. I am concerned that my windows might not be properly sealed. Anyone have thoughts on this?

:eek: I am planning on replacing a window with a sliding glass door. The window is wide enough to accommodate this. I am thinking of doing the demo work myself and having the door installed by whoever I buy it from. I know that all doors are 6'8". I am trying to figure out how much I need to demo vertically. I thought on the interior I should demo everything between the sole and top plate and of course the studs on the out side. I have a brick house and am trying to figure out what height I should cut the brick. If I measure from the above the existing window...How far down do I need to demo? 6'10"? 7'? Any ideas? All the examples that I have found are for houses with siding.
