Door hinge comes out of frame...

Lets start from the beginning. I want to put a door in and exixting wall (it's not a load bearing wall) I found a web site that told how to put one in a wall that was already there (it's from the master bedroom, to the 1/2 bathroom) but when i took out the recessed toilet paper holder you could see the other wall, but what i also say was an electrical wire running thru the studs about 2' up from the floor. I went into the basement and seen the wire going from a ceiling light, up thru the ceiling, to where i seen it between the walls. Cant i turn the power off, cut the wire, add wire nuts, and run the wire over the top of the door. I was at home depot for other things, and asked a guy about this, he said not with electrical wire, what gives, anybody know what i should do, or then just give up the idea of haveing a door.
