Does it matter which hinge leaf goes on door and jamb
I'm installing new interior doors and was wondering if it matters which half of the hinge goes on the door and which half goes on the jamb, i.e. the leaf with 2 knuckles vs. the leaf with 3.
The current doors don't seem to provide any answer. The hinge orientation seems more dependent on whether it's a right handed or left handed door, but since I'm installing heavier doors which will require 3 hinges per door, and since the pin can be reversed, I was wondering if one method of installation is more stable and sturdy than the other.

The hinges are mirrors of each other. The only thing you have to watch out for is the pin installation. Of course the pin head goes up, and since they are packaged that way, that's the way I would install them.

But they're NOT mirrors of each other. One leaf has two knuckles, the other has three. And the pin can be inserted from either side, so in effect the hinge can be "reversed" if desired.
Regardless, as you suggest, I will probably just install the hinges the way they came regardless of the door's left or right-handedness unless someone indicates that putting three knuckles on the door is always more stable. Or vice versa.

You are right regarding the pin knuckles, but the holes are mirrored. I see what you mean. It doesn't matter, as long as they are all done in the proper direction, regardless of right or left handedness. Since they come with hinge pins in them, I would install them with the pin up, so they will match.
