Old windows trash?

I just bought a house and the windows haven't been painted in so long they are rotting out. I just replaced some old double paned windows and it seems like a waste to send them to the landfill. The glass is fine, and I would like to use some of it on some broken windows on the garage but have no idea how to get the panes apart so I can cut them. Any ideas? Thanks

After you remove the double pane glass from the frames, carefully cut through the sealant, with a utility knife, all around the outside edge between the glass and the spacer. Some are very difficult to cut through and it may not be worth the time. If the glass had condensation in between the two panes, the glass most likely is stained and can't be cleaned.
