Replacement Window/ Attic fan

I have new Andersen renewal windows in my attic, and need to replace the power vent fan. Previously, it sat attached to a crude plywood frame in the upper section of the double hung window. How can I get it back into the same position without damaging the new window frame? Are there products out there that are adjustable to fill the space, similar to framing used with window unit AC's?

Are you talking about a mushroom type roof ventilator, or a room fan? I would try to find another location, even if it meant making a new hole and framing it up, rather than tearing up a good Andersen window. Does this fan ventilate, and where does it get its influx of fresh air?
