Replacing window in exterior garden door
Hi,
Hoping someone here can help with this problem. I have a single exterior garden door with a window insert. The window insert has 15 "panes". I believe the seal is kaput on this insert as the inside panes are foggy. We have been debating our many options in replacing this door, however it was recently suggested that if the door itself is good (which it appears to be), then we just need to have a new window insert made and installed. My question is, how difficult would it be to install the new insert back into the door ourselves? We're not much of DIYers, however if it's not a complicated job, we're willing to try it. Otherwise we're looking at $200 for installation!

Good luck on finding someone to sell you an insulated glass unit if you intend to install it. Even you get one, there will be no guarantee.
If you have a non-standard size it will be more difficult to have one made to fit. There is even less incentive to have an insert made without any benefit of installation income.
You are really not losing enough insulation to justify the cost, but it is an eyesore.
I had a an oversize slider unit fog up and chose to have it replaced rather than pick it up, handle it, remove the monster oversized wood slider and take a chance on the unknown. Luckily it was one of the old sizes they had in stock so it was installed the same day I called. If it had not been in stock, I would have had to wait a day or two with little difference in cost IF it was installed. Mine was about $240, but I was in an area with many installers that do their own fabrication.
You may choose to keep the old unit if there is not the appearance problem that I had in my family room.
