Replacing door from garage

I am not an expert handyman, so bear with me, please. I want to replace the metal door that goes between the garage and the house (the door is pretty beat up). The door measures 31 3/4 x79 3/4. I read here a lot about replacing with a pre-hung door so everything fits better, but given all the interior molding it and other materials that look like they would have to be removed, it looks like this would be a difficult job -- or, at least one I have never done. Is there a way to purchase a standard size door that could just replace the one I have? Or is the only way to really do it is going the pre-hung route? I appreciate your help. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums. By far, if you can take the old case molding off your door, cut the nails with a reciprocating saw, take the old door and frame out, replacing it with a new unit, you will have a happier day. I do it professionally, so having my 'druthers, I'druther replace it all. Cutting and mortising hinges falls in with root canals.
