8-foot interior french door?

Anyone have a source for an 8-foot french door suitable for interior installation? We have an exactly 96 x 80 opening between our living room and dining room and want to separate the rooms. We're looking for single pane oak doors.

Failing that, is it practical/possible to buy 2 4-foot doors and then custom build a meeting rail for them? The only places I've found to special order them are for exterior applications with aluminum or vinyl on one side.

Thanks for any ideas...

Have you considered using the 4 -2' doors, making 2 doors staionary and just the middle 2 hinged?

humm.. I see 2 options. You could have the door custom made to fit your existing opening (expensive) or you could frame down your header to make a standard 81 1/2" rough height. Easiest would be simply frame the opening to fit a nice prehung. If you are personally attempting to hang double slab doors and you are not experienced in it. I urge caution. It can be and is a fairly advanced project.

Pro, the 96" dimension is the width -- I need a door that's standard height, but 8' wide. Not a problem with sliders, but seems to be custom in french doors.

Marksr, I was kind of kicking around the idea of just throwing a 6 foot unit in and 12" sidelites on the sides. Might be the best overall, since those 4-ft door panels would need a bunch of clearance to swing open.

This project will be me and my buddy who owns a home improvement company; he's been installing windows, doors, and siding for about 15 years. I know when to say when.

oh my mistake just that 96" is 8' so threw me off. I have seen doors that tall in upscale homes with 10' - 12" ceilings. In that case I like the sidelights idea. sounds like you have good help. good luck

Sounds like a plan
