Larson Storm door with friction sliders--broken
#1

I have a two year old EMCO "guaranteed for life" storm door with two panes of moveable glass.
The panes move vertically up and down, and are held in place just with friction "of some sort of balancer assembly. Now the "key" ingredient in the friction part of this equation is malfunctioning--the string. Somehow when I raise the upper panel to the top there is a string exposed and left dangling.
It is secured on both ends presumeably, but it is lose and the window can be in freefall if we do not latch it to the lower pane.
Any suggestions would be helpful as to how these type of storm doors work or how to repair this. I will be calling the company to see if this problem is actually covered--ha, ha.
Thank you for the assistance,
Brad
