What is absolute best caulking for southeast?
I am in process of replacing window sills that have rotted. And so I am going to have to recaulk, prime and repaint all of them too. I would like to know what you suggest for the best kind of caulking to use around the windows. These are wood casings so caulking will be on just wood. I am hoping for something that has flexibility for the head of southeast summers and chilly winters. Something that is mildew resistant, and just long lasting and reliable. Thanks for all input and suggestions.

Any good brand as long as it is a latex acrylic which is stainable and paintable would do fine here in the south. Dap makes several lines, and colors. You could go to a paint store rather than a big box and see what those guys are using.

I prefer the white lightning brand, whichever you chose make sure it is siliconized acrylic latex caulk. Most caulks have a warranty [not worth anything} that will give you an indication of how good it is. It is best to prime the wood 1st and then apply the caulk when dry.

Marksr: It surprises me that you use White Lightning caulk. That's what I use, because it is the cheapest, and I'm no painter. I know you are, so I am pleased to know it is ok to use. Glad you chimed in as I forgot the word "siliconized" in my description.

White lightning... not to be confused with MOUNTAIN Lightning, which is Wal-Mart's delicious knockoff of Mountain Dew.
Personally, when working on windows, I swear by OSI Quad, which is neither latex nor siliconized. But that's for things that I won't be painting, since oil based caulking needs about 7 days to cure.
