Replacement Windows Bowing In?
I just had vinyl replacement windows installed.The 10 double hungs look fine.I also had 2 sliders installed.The front slider is quite large and is a 1/4 1/2 1/4 variety.It replaced a picture window with a double hung on either side.The rear slider is smaller and replaced 2 double hungs next to each other that had wood between them.The problem is that the new sliders are bowing in and don't look square,after I pointed this out the installer zipped a screw into the middle on the side and it improved it but it still doesn't look right.Not too mention that it screwed up the way it looked on the inside.they are trying to tell me its ok ,but it doesn't seem right to me.Also, my wife says that they looked bowed even before the install!!!!I did not pay them and want this fixed,what should I do and what are my options....thanks..

It depends what type of company you are dealing with. But I would suggest that you call the company, let them know that you are not completely satisfied with 100% the work that was completed. Describe the problem, and ask to have one of their foreman or job superintendants check the job out. Many companies respond well when problems are reported, so don't immediately jump down someone's throat, so to speak. Everyone wants happy customers, so give them a chance to correct the problem before getting upset- even though it may be upsetting at this point in time.
Perhaps you could ask them if they have anyone who checks up on the quality of their installations, because some of your windows are bowed and out of square?
You don't need to mention that you are withholding payment just yet... Since you likely have 30 days from completion to pay in full- you can use that as leverage later if they do not respond to your request for service.
No contractor likes it when people withhold the entire payment when the problem is only a small percentage of the total job. But sadly, it's often the only leverage a customer has.
