Deadbolt screws stripped out

I have a deadbolt in a door and the screws that secure the plate that goes over the bolt on the side of the door are gone and completely stripped out. I bought some 2 1/2" wood screws but the holes are deeper and wider than that and there's no grab. How can I fix this puppy? Thanks.

Holes

Apply wood glue to a dowel or golf tee and insert in the hole. Allow the glue to dry, and proceed as if installing into new wood. A skewer stick from the kitchen will also work. Good luck.
