Crooked Threshold

The following links are to pictures of our front door. Apparently when the porch was re-done before the house was sold the door was put back in with a crooked sill & threshhold. There is also a portion of the threshhold unsupported. My father told me to use a piece of wood and a sledge hammer to bang it back straight. I don't think that's a good idea. I looked for a way to remove the threshhold, pull the nails & straighten the sill then re-nail and I don't see how to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The threshold is not removable, the side jambs are factory stapled to the sides of the threshold before the unit is installed. Your father is on the right track with the sledgehammer. You would probably want to slide a couple 6" wide putty knives under the threshold so that nothing will prevent the door from sliding back... remove the aluminum storm door z-bar first (the phillips screws), and use a block of wood as he mentioned (2x4 laid flat), and give it a few whacks. I'd recommend you run a *small* bead of PL200 construction adhesive (or liquid nails, etc) along the floor (in that gap) so that once the door is pushed back and the glue sets up, it will help hold the door in place.

It's likely the front edge of the threshold was slightly bent by foot traffic prior to the porch being finished.

Thanks for the help.

That's 2 for whacking it with a maul. Will give it a try this weekend & post here with how it turns out.

It's pretty crummy that they won't let you post pictures in this forum.
