Estimated $$to replace Glass on sliding doors

we have 7 dual-pane sliders in our house due to 2 large decks. 3 of them the glass has fogged up & need to be replaced. Initial local estimate we got was $350 per door. We live in NJ Metro area... too high or OK?

thanks.... Tom

Compare quality, cost and warranty to new doors? If doors are in otherwise good condition, fit properly, and do not leak, then if savings is significant, glass replacement may be the way to go. Note, cost of materials and labor tend to vary from area to area. Get a couple more bids to put your mind at ease whether replacing glass or doors.

Depending on the age/manufacturer of the doors, there may be a warramty on the glass. Some are 10 yrs, some 20, some longer. See if you can find a name on the door or glass. If no name or old, consider above suggestion. New quality doors are considerably better that those of just a few years ago.

$350 sounds a little high, but as noted, costs vary from place to place. Around here it would be closer to $250. You should be able to get a discount for 3 of them at the same time... such as $350 for the 1st one and $200 for each one thereafter. It costs a company quite a bit just to drive to your house- after they are there, their rate per door should reflect that.

As mentioned, get a few more estimates from other glass houses.

thx for replying guys..

we received a 2nd estimate tonight.... this one was $375 per door to replace the glass vs my 1st one of $350 per. We're gonna try one more tomorrow. Guess being in NJ everying is higher $$$ just like our taxes & car insurance.
Oh well, I still like living here for now (until retirement)... ha-ha
