Install Patio Door

Objective is to install a 6' patio door at a location where a typical 32" door exists.Tricky part is its in a block foundation. the door wil barely fit between the cement patio and the sill/header of the first floor of the house. my only concern is hoe to reinforce the header over the new door opening. Would I have to cut back the floor joists, and double up the existing header? Obviously I realize in order to do this I would need to build a temp wall to support joists while cutting.

Is the entire house made of block? Is that what you mean by "tricky?" Are there interior 2x4 framed walls?

It's hard to give you specific advice without seeing a picture, or without seeing the ceiling, the blocks, and doing some measuring. But in a nutshell, you will need to totally remove and replace the old header. Your header will be at least 4" longer than your new door is wide. It must have a king stud on each side (that runs from top plate to bottom plate), and a jack stud (or trimmer) underneath the header on each side.
