New tile won't fit under pocket door...
We're going to install tile in our bathroom. With 1/4" hardibacker plus the tile, the floor will be taller than the current clearance of our pocket door. I was thinking about stopping the tile short of the door, but then there will be a small step that I'd rather avoid. Ideally, I'd like to shorten the door and then install a threshold between the tile and the bedroom carpet.
Maybe I'm crazy, but the last thing that I want to do is remove the pocket door. Is there any kind of tool that can cleanly cut a 1/2" off of the bottom of the door while it's fully extended (i.e., closed)?
I'm thinking that I could make a rough cut from either side with a sawsall and then tediously sand it from the bottom up (luckily it's only 30" wide), but I'm hoping there's a better way ... or, again, maybe I'm just nuts.
Any ideas?

There are ways to cut the door in place, but it is not easy and often impossible to keep a straight line. But taking the door out is not that hard, you do have to remove some of the trim, but nothing else.

Well, I should have thought this through earlier. For the tile to be flush with the door jamb, I need to remove the trim anyway. So, it only makes sense remove the door.
It was a pain, but now I have a nice clean line, and it was much easier to paint!
