Old fashioned door knobs and hardware?

Does anyone know a website where I can replace my older 1950 door knobs and latch mechanism? I want the same look but the springs have given out somewhat inside the latch mechanism and the knobs don't spring back after turning them. It's the kind of knobs/latch where just a small hole is drilled into the door.
Thanks

You must be talking of rim lock sets. The black box mounts on the side of the door, and all you have is a small hole for the knob and key. If so, check with a local hardware store. I just had to replace 4 of them the other day on an 1850's log home. Look great, except it will take a few decades for the bright finish to wear out.

I have similar problem, I refinished some doors last fall, was able to restore rim lock/mortice set from harvested parts from unfinished doors , now I am looking for decent trim plates and a smaller knob, every site either wants a ton of cash for authentic period pieces or offer cheap looking chinese junk, it's hard to find middle ground for an average DIYer. You could take the guts from a cheap lock set found at a local hardware store and put them in a old one, I was able to remove 100 years worth of paint and rust from mine, they are very simple to fix. Lots of oil and a small brush, then find a spring, should be as good as new. I will post here again if a I find a reasonable site.

You can try www.kehardware.com I have bought several knobs for houses I have renovated and I have been quite pleased with selection with all kinds of different designs I was going for! Good prices and customer service!

try these guys. i've found that they're usually pretty good about stocking or having access to older hardware styles. i dunno if they direct-ship though, you may need to find a retailer that carries the line.

I've used this site a few times:

www.deabath.com

It's kind of hard to find what you're looking for on the web site, but I've always managed to get there.

I'm having a similar problem; trying to put in new knobs and the ones in the doors have just a small round hole and I've had to literally hammer them out using a screw driver, forcing the mechanism backwards...what a pain! I don't know if there is a simpler way...
Also, I'm working on a Guardian brand bedroom door (locking) and I can't get the knobs apart even after taking out the 2 screws....is there a detente release on that knob somewhere?
