Alside Excalibur or Soft-lite Imperial?

We are looking to buy either Soft-lite Imperial windows (casement and double hung), or Alside's Excalibur windows. We would appreciate any opinions on the two types. Are they both midrange in price as well as performance? Are they both reliable as far as longevity, sturdiness? Supposedly their U rating is about the same. We have gotten estimates of $6100 for both brands. Each is 7/8" insulated, Low E coated, Argon filled glass, with intercept spacer. Can the spacer be upgraded to super spacer with everything else left the same? There are 10 double hung, 1 2 lite slider and 2 single casement units. All will have colonial style grids (top and bottom), except the casements which will have etched Florentine pattern. Do the quotes seem reasonable? Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! Without knowing where you are located (you can stipulate that in your preferences), it would be difficult for us to even guess at the quote on the windows. Are these replacement windows, or are they entire units, which will require removal of siding, etc, in order to install? How many windows are on the second story and how many on the first floor?

Alside Excalibur or Soft-lite Imperial?

Thanks for the reply Larry. These are replacement windows, four are on the second story. All windows will be wrapped. We are located in western New York.

See? With your moniker, I would have guessed Kansas. I have installed Alside replacements, and they are pretty straight forward. It seems with the bells and whistles you are getting with your windows, the quote isn't too far off, but you could still get a third estimate just to keep everyone honest.

Already have. Schuco, Bristol and Gorell. All nice windows. Bristol and Schuco were triple pane, and EXPENSIVE. Gorell had the same things I'm looking at Soft-lite and Alside for; double pane, low E, etc.. Gorell wanted $8,500. So Soft-lite and Alside are it. Probably Soft-lite, going to upgrade spacer from intercept to super spacer. The super spacer will bump price up $200, which isn't bad considering it should help with condensation. Are there different grades of super spacer? BTW, I did grow 2 acres of corn every year till raccoons, crows and neighbors got to be too much.
