Double Pane Window Questions
1. How long do they normally last?
2. Would tinting void the warranty of a double pane window? I live in SoCal and wonder if it is true.
3. Arch over a rectangular window, the butyl (?) rubber holding the panes together are buckling or coming apart. What causes this?
Thanks for any info.

There are considerable differences in the way multiple pane windows are manufactured. Some processes last a very long time, others don't. Do you know the manufacturer/brand?? Double glass windows with Lo-E coatings and gas(such as argon), do not benefit much from added coatings/films, they already block most UV and much heat. If you do add one, put it on the outside. Films installed on the inside reflect heat into the window and may cause damage to the seals holding the glass together.

Sounds like the buckling black rubber that you see is the "swiggle strip" that is used to make the insulating glass unit. I have seen that happen now and then and I think it's from the heat causing it to soften and move. That glass unit will have to be replaced soon.
