Add a window to steel clad door?
I'm getting ready to close on a house that needs some rehab and one thing is the front door. It's one of those "steel clad" doors, but it's plain, now window, like a back door might be.
Is it possible to add a window to one of those? I'd rather spend a few bucks and some time than the $150 or so one of the "fan light" ones will probably set me back.
Thanks in advance.

As long as the door is flat, and not a paneled door, you can add a window to it. By window, I am assuming a light panel. When I have done this, I use a drill to mark the corners through the door case to the other side. Connect the dots and cut with a Rotozip. Be aware you will blister some of the paint due to the Rotozips RPM, but that can be overcome. The light you chose should have a frame that can be connected to each other. You can also buy window lights from door manufacturers, cut your own hole and install their light.

I've cut open steel doors using a skilsaw and a steel cutting abrasive blade. I've also used a grinder with a 1/16" abrasive blade.
The only thing I could add to Chandler's comments is that I'm guessing you'll be lucky to find someone to send you the glass and plastic framing for under $100.
