Door repair

I have two interior doors that are damaged too badly for refinishing. I have priced prehung doors, but noticed a product called doorskin. It is nice clear wood, and only about five dollars a sheet, but the ouyfit selling it did not know how to use it. Should the old skin be peeled off somehow, or do you place the new skin over the old since it is so thin.

Not nearly enough info, but I am assuming it is an adhesive backed wood veneer??? If it is a thin plastic/vinyl sheet, DON'T!!!!!!! If it is wood veneer, I might think about it.

Yes the doors are wood veneer, and I believe are filled with some type of foam. Should I attempt to remove the old veneer, or overlay it.

It really isn't feasable to remove the 'skin' on a hollow core door. All the ones I've worked on have a 'web' of cardboard which gives the door skin support. Of course the styles and area around the knob would be solid wood. The only doors that I know of that have styrofoam filler are the metal clad exterior doors.

I've always patched and painted or replaced. For $5, I think it would be worth a shot. Are they adhesive backed or do you use contact cement? I would guess you would only have 1 shot at applying it correctly.

The door skins I have used are sheets of 1/8" luan in 3 x 7 sheets, make specifically for covering doors. I like to use contact cement and a big roller to make the adhesion take.

I have to use adhesive. I guess for 5 bucks I can give it a shot. The worst that can happen is I`ll have a good laugh after. thanx much for the input.
