Question about windows
I had the windows replaced in my home with Anderson windows double hung, double glass, in 1981. Now the problems: the sills are bowing up in the middle, the screens are not able to fit in the windows now, not one but all are doing the same thing, the vinyl on the outside is cracking and it seems to be drawing moisture because it looks like black mold underneath the vinyl. I had two windows completely replaced four years ago and they do not seem to be fairing any better. No contractor seems to be able to tell me why my windows are doing this
Questions: why are the sills bowing? What is the fix? what kind of paint do or can I use to paint these no paint windows?
Thanks in advance,
CFit50

They are WAY out of warranty, but have you tried contacting an Andersen rep. They may have the answers you seek, but I am not sure of a solution.
From your description, I would guess there may be an initial installation problem, but after 26 yrs, it is hard to tell.

Welcome to the world of your brand of windows. Your very lucky they have lasted that long. Most have problems between 10 & 15 years. That is why I will not replace any windows nor will I install any of this brand of window. there are many brands alot better and will last longer. The problem arises from weather and materials from how the windows are manufactured I think. There is really only one way to install them, and if installed wrong they just will not work right. Good Luck
