I'm in the planning stages of this project and I had a couple of questions:
1) The exterior of my house is brick but the house is framed. What's the best way of removing the brick where the door is going to be? Also, what's the best thing to do with the brick along the edges? Cut it or just break it off?
2) Typically, aren't door and window widths close to each other?
Thank you very much for your time

A brick fascade would be cut with an electric or gas powered saw that is equipped with a diamond blade. The cut must be perfectly plumb because the door will need to be perfectly plumb.
If you are planning on getting a door that has a #908 brickmould as the exterior trim, then the brick opening would need to be roughly 4 1/8" wider than the door. So for a 32" door, the brick opening would be 36 1/8", for a 36" door, the brick opening would be 40 1/8". As for the height, the lentil on top would need to be 83 1/4" above the finished floor level for a #908 brickmould to fit on top. Some door heights vary so you would need to know exactly what door you will be using and know what trim you will be using before you cut the brick opening.
Keep in mind that you likely have electrical running through the wall below the window that will need to be relocated by an electrician.

Thanks!
Thank you very much for the response! I appreciate all the information. Guess my next move is to figure out what door do purchase. Have to involve the wife with that one - even though I'm doing the work, must have approval before moving forward!
