nonopening windows

We have a bow window with 5 panes that does not open. Is there some way to modify it so we can open it? It is screwed into the frame.

It really depends on the brand of window you have. Some fixed wood windows can be changed into casements simply by changing out the trim and adding the crank and crank arm track. Many vinyl picture windows are simply casements without the hardware, and the locks and cranks can be added. But it usually takes a factory service rep to do the job. One screw up and the window is toast. Others are not interchangable at all. Its impossible to say without seeing the window. Your best bet would be to identify the window brand and then call one of their local dealers.

I turned a few Weather Shield fixed windows into casements a couple years back. The homeowners had no idea why they put fixed windows right next to their kitchen table. The home builder probably saved $10 per window or something.
