Post Need Door Manufacturer Advice

Hi,

I have 2 quotes on a Fiberglass entry door, 1 is from Thermatru and the other is from Feather River. Does anyone know if one company's products is better than the other?? The Thermatru quote is about $400 more expensive and I wanted to know if there door is better and as a consumer, how would I know??

Thanks,

sweetboy

sweetboy, keep searching!

Nothing especially wrong with either product.

Ashtabula, Ohio - vertically integrated manufacturer. Origin Taiwan. Worldwide distribution. Not a beginner by any means.

Did I mention one of the least expensive FRP Mfg? From a local job shop, I could purchase two of their exterior FRP flush doors, with FRP jambs; sill; brick mold, less hardware, for that $400 difference.

Do purchase from a job shop that machines blanks. The Ohio plant and Taiwan are setup for universal "European" non-handed hinge preps.

Santee, California - invented the fiberglass door. Lacks the distribution of other manufactures, but produces doors that others don't.

Again $400 will buy a very cool frp door.

I am familiar with Thermatru, quality product and they stand behind the product, been in the door business for a LONG time. Not sure about the other.

Therma-Tru makes a good product

Sweetboy,

By way of disclosure first and foremost, I know the folks at Therma-Tru well. They've sponsored my radio program before and I've been to their factories to watch doors be made. Now that this is behind us, I can tell you Therma-Tru make a great product. I'm not sure which door you are looking at but the price range is farirly wide based on the product line. My suggestion would be to to try and do an apples to apples comparison of the features and benefits of the products you are interested in from both manufacturers to be sure each is being judged against similar features in the other product. For example, one of the things I was most impressed about with Therma-Tru was their AccuGrain technology, which creates a depth and dimension to the finish that is a dead-ringer for real wood.

You are wise to consider fiberglass doors as a category. These are far more energy efficient, break-in proof and low maintenance than metal or wood doors.

Good luck.
