Floor Guide for By-Pass Doors

I have someone coming to carpet a new bedroom in our basement tomorrow. The room has a closet with a 54" opening in which I will put by-pass sliding doors. Do I need to install the floor guide for these doors before he carpets the room, or can I just screw it down throught the carpet into the concrete floor after the carpet is installed? I just figured I would pre=drill, and use some tapcon screws to fasten it down.

Thanks!

Do the carpet first, then just screw the guide on top of the carpet.

I agree, it can go down after the carpet. In some cases, with carpet pad and thick carpet, you'll want to cut out a small section of carpet, and install a solid wood shim underneath your floor guide. If there is no pad or the carpet is thin, it can go right on the carpet, no problem.

By all means, cut an area out, or at least a couple of x's where the screws will go. If you don't and a screw grabs a thread of the carpet, well let's just say it wont be a happy day in your house. Berber is the worst, so be careful.
