Window Replacements

some punk broke my window while f___ around at night in front of my house. I couldn't catch the perpetrator and autumn is coming soon so i gotta replace it. Are there any online manuals that will show step by step instructions on replacing the window .... what precautions to take, what kind of preparations to make , etc.....

Please advise .... i installed the patio door myself.... did a good job of it wondered if there is anything to look out for when doing the windows...

If it is single pane, then it is pretty easy. Have new glass cut to size. Set in sash and secure with glazing points. Roll a bead of glazing putty and apply to edges and you are done.

This is a job for a professional. I assume it's a door with tempered dual pane glass. The insulating glass unit must be ordered to the correct size & thickness. If you make a mistake it will be costly. Call your local glass shop.

maniek,

Is this a window, or is it a sliding glass door?

If it's a sliding glass door, then, like Jotham said, call a glass shop and leave it to a pro.

If it's a window, is it single pane or double pane?

Single pane is pretty simple. Get a pane of the same thickness cut to size and replace it. That will be pretty straight forward.

Double pane is totally different. You have to order the replacement IG unit. Takes about a week to get it. Probably best to leave that to a pro as well. Not only is it width by height, but it's thickness of the IG unit, type of glass and any coatings that may be involved, how it's installed, ...

Call your Insurance company first. Hopefully you have insurance then the problem is solved.
