Installing pet/cat door
OK, I have a nagging wife and kids who want a cat. The only place to actually put a litter box would be our laundry room that is entered through the basement/family room. I can not leave the door open at all times and need the litter box accessible of course. Installing a cat/pet door would not be hard, but I am wondering if anyone knows if this can be done in a pre-molded 6 panel door. This is the cheap $30 doors you get from HD or Lowes. I am not even sure what exact material it is made from. I looked all over google and other places but can find nothing. Almost all pet doors lead to outside and these doors are not used for that purpose. Anyone able to help?

A 6 panel masonite door may not give you the proper height-to-center-of-panel relationship. Cats can jump, but they won't jump and push a door at the same time. Installing the door is pretty straight forward. They send you a template with the door, and if you drill straight, level pilot holes through the door and cut it with a fine blade jig saw, it installs like a clamshell. Look at the height and see if it is viable before you drill.

I installed a cat door in a 6 panel masonite door with no probs. It is right in the middle, in between 2 of the panels. It isn't flush all the way around, but it looks fine.
