Lifespan of rollup screens in storm door

I'm replacing a storm door and wonder how the roll up screens that some come with do over time? They seem to work great in the store, but 5 years from now?

My experience with the roll up screens is not their longevity. They just don't stay in the track. Often, only a stiff breeze is enough to pull it out of the track. Easy to reset, but it should not have this problem, especially when you see the advertising that tauts these gadgets.

But to answer the question, use any fiberglass screen material, and I don't think they are hard to replace.

I took a closer look at the screen and it's track. It's like the emperor's clothes--not much there!

very tall storm door

For our front door storm door, we have a very tall opening. It is in excess of 105 inches (almost 9 feet tall). It is also about 38 inches wide. We have found one place in NYC that will make us a storm door this tall, but shipping to the midwest (st. louis area) is adding 50% of the door price onto the total. I know that there are problems with a pane of glass this tall, but aren't there more places/companies that would be able to make a door for us? Most places have said their maximum "custom" door is 97". But I am quite sure that we do not have the only house in the US with a tall storm door! Thanks in advance, Kathy

Screen door corroding???

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody else could help me with a question. I live in the houston area and last fall I rescreened my front storm door. I have done this a number of times before on doors and windows in different homes I have lived in from, arizona, ohio, and florida. I usually replace the original fiberglass stuff with the charcoal aluminum because I have 3 cats and the aluminum with stand up stronger to their claws if they were to get cute with the screen. Back to the point, I have noticed the last few months at sporadic points on this front storm door that I rescreened, tiny little white spots here and there. I just assumed it was a mold kind of thing due to the temp and humidity prone to the area. I figured I would just clean it off at some point and be done with it. Well that some point came yesterday and I noticed that in all the areas the little white spots (1cm x 2cm maybe) the screen material seems to just dissolve, almost like corrosion. I was always under the impression aluminum didn't rust, and can corrode, but I've never seen anything quite like this. Is this indeed corrosion, from what dewpoint, maybe salt from ocean air. Or maybe a secretion from bug/spider/frogs/ that could cause it to do that. I just have never seen this, and I don't really want to waste my time rescreening if this will happen again. Should I be looking at different screen material, like fiberglass or a different aluminum screening. Thanks for any input.
