very tall storm door

For our front door storm door, we have a very tall opening. It is in excess of 105 inches (almost 9 feet tall). It is also about 38 inches wide. We have found one place in NYC that will make us a storm door this tall, but shipping to the midwest (st. louis area) is adding 50% of the door price onto the total. I know that there are problems with a pane of glass this tall, but aren't there more places/companies that would be able to make a door for us? Most places have said their maximum "custom" door is 97". But I am quite sure that we do not have the only house in the US with a tall storm door!

Thanks in advance,
Kathy

Gorell makes custom storm doors, but I don't know the maximum size. They have dealers in your area.

Most storm doors use 1/8" tempered glass and there is a limit on the size. From my experience, the door size is much to large. If it's made with a 12" kick plate, then it will probably be OK. What company did you find in NYC?

i don't know if this is an option or not but you could have a steel security door installed and there shouldn't be any height problem because most of them are custom built. it would be more money than a storm door but it sounds like you might have to pay more anyways so you might as well get a more quality product for the same price. they can be ordered with screens and glass and if you do the self-storing option then you don't have to switch them back and forth.

I can't remember what the name of the company is but they are on Long Island. DH is dealing with them. What we have decided to do is have them build the door (It's full glass) but with a mock transom at the top, about 12", which will have a screen insert. The front door itself has a working transom, so I think that'll look okay.

Thanks for your help!

Since the other door has a transom, why not put a header at the bottom of the transom to allow for a full storm door and a fixed storm panel above that.

Another alternative is to continue the storm door bucks up to the very top of the opening and installing the storm door to the height of the bottom of the transom and then a fixed section of the same door material above the operating door.
