Peachtree and/or others...
Hello everyone. I'm hoping you can help me.
I am starting a basement remodel. It is a walkout, and I will have five double-hung windows on the outside wall, in addition to a sliding door and a regular swinging door.
After some looking, I thought I liked Peachtree brand windows the best. But...I got some pricing last night at Lowes and I'm having sticker shock. For what I thought was a basic window (standard size, roughly 3' x 4') they are quoting me $1,200 each. Yipe! I was thinking that something like $300 to $500 per window was what I should expect.
So...first: Does anyone have any experience with discount levels on Peachtree? Are deep discounts (40%, 50% or more) typical?
Second, if Peachtree really costs that much more than (for example) Anderson, any idea why?

My expeirence with big box stores is that when you order anything that remotely resembles a special order ( to them if it is not a store stocked item it is special order), then you are going to pay a significantly higher price.
Find another peachtree dealer. Go to their website and they have a dealer listing by zip code
When you find a dealer, Negociate your price - be bold all they can do is say no. Tell them up front you are looking for the best deal and you are paying cash. Its an easy sale and a good profit for them.

This has nothing to do with big box stores. Peachtree is a high end product. If you don't want to spend that much, go with Andersen. I use Andersen windows and doors about 90%of the time with a few others (Marvin, Pella mostly ) making up the rest. You get much more bang for your buck with Andersen. Peachtree may have a builder's line like Pella does. These are considerably cheaper. From my experience, big box stores are great if when you walk in, you can leave with what you came for. If you need to custom order anything, go to a millwork supply house or a lumber yard. They don't screw things up nearly as often.
