hanging doors

I have a flat metal frame separating to rooms. I would like to attach a wood door to that frame. What's the best way to go about it? Do I need to attach wood to the metal or just work with the existing frame.

Since you have a no-stop metal jamb of an unknown metal gage the best solution is remove the jamb then install a pre-hung door. Painful solutions include hanging a hollow core door with an expensive piano or roton geared hinge, attaching a channel iron frame, or doing as you suggest attach wood to the metal jamb.
