Addition of home office - door width/height?

I'm going to wall off a home office for my wife and would like to frame it such that an interior door to the office could be installed if/when one is desired at a later date.

What width and height dimension should I frame out the opening so it would accept one of those standard prehung doors if required in the future?

Thanks
Wayne

Hi wayne,

Decide what actual door size you want. I'd recommend at least a 30", 32" or even 36" if you have the space. makes things much easier when yer moving things in or out.

Std nominal size pre-hung doors (24, 28, 30, 32, 36) require an opening 2" wider, and 2 1/2" higher than the door itself.

IE 30 x 80 door requires an opening of 32 x 82 1/2"

Remember to take into consideration the drywall when you do your rough framing.

What he said, but I would figure for a 36" door. Anything smaller is no good when moving furniture, etc.
