Old Door knobb removal
I just purchased a new home that had been remodled recently by the old owners. They changed 2 small rooms into one master, which is fine but it has 2 doors into the room. One of the doors locks, but the other doesnt (whoops) The problem though is these door knobs dont have any visible screws. I was able to pull off the first door knobb, and the 2nd, I found a small notch that i pushed in and pulled off the other, but the plates on each side and the small remaining shaft on each side are still holding fast in place. I dont want to tear apart the door trying to open it. Does anyone have any idea what kind of door knobb im dealing with? I think this house was built in 64 and could very well be the original.

melvenis,

There are several mfgrs. out there who do (or did) locksets like that. Rather than exposd screws, you'll find a little slot on the shank of the knob.
A small screwdriver in the slot of the knob shank will allow you to depress the retainer and pull the knob off. Once that's gone, find the slot on the trim ring and insert a slightly larger scrwdriver and twist. The trim ring should pop off. THEN you'll be down to a couple of phillips head screws that will allow you to take the rest of the lockset apart.
