3M Ultra 400 Window Film

Hope this is the right place to post this. It could go under the security forum also.

For those that have watched the TV program “It Takes A Thief” on the Discovery channel where they set cameras up in some ones home, then burglarize it, show the people how it was done, and finish the program by giving and installing thousands of dollars of security stuff to the home owners.

One of the things they do on some of the homes, is to install 3M Ultra 400 Window Film on the first story windows. The windows that have this film on them can not be broken, even with a crow bar, well, they are severely damaged, but not broken, and no one is even going to be able to stick a hand thru a window with this film.

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience installing this film, and what’s involved in installation, and if it’s not a DIY project, what it would cost to have this film installed over existing windows. Ball park figure, or sq. ft. figure.

Looks like the typical Gila film installation method but I don't see any place that sells direct though, looks like you must go through a dealer for installs.

I don't want to discourage anybody from using this product, it sounds great. I would like to mention that this would instantly void the warranty from certain manufacturers of windows.

Thanks. That’s kind of what I was thinking. I haven’t enquired about this stuff at the local hardware store yet. I did a Google search on Gila film installation method, and found a pdf document detailing the installation. It the two films are the same, those instructions give me a good idea on the installation process.

There is no such thing as a warranty on these windows. Custom shaped, installed around 1960.
