Unhappy Greased Door Closes

I have 3 interior doors that a good intentioned friend thought he would stop squeaking by putting WD-40 on the hinges. Now, of course, the doors won't stay open. It's very frustrating. Can you tell me how to correct this problem. I've removed the hinges and wiped the oil off, and have used Q-tips to remove the oil inside, as much as I can, but the doors still close. Would the "bent pin" method work on this? I haven't tried that yet, and didn't want to if there was another solution. Thanks, NANAW

Welcome to the forums! To stop the squeak, the lubrication was a proper call. You have door casing problems or floor settling problems. Take a level and see if the stile (upright) of the door on the hinge side is plumb. A correction either to the floor levelness or to the plumbness of the door frame is in order. Bending the hinge pin is an "out", but it doesn't fix the problem, only masks it.

Paint thinner would probably remove the oil but then you're back to squeaking

I may try that. The squeak wasn't a nuisance to our family, but the door always closing is. Thank you for your suggestion. I'll let you know if it works.
