New handle latch too big for my new door

Hi,

As I'm getting ready to replace a door in my house, I have run into a small issue. The latch is slightly too big (probably 2mm) for the hole in the door (it is a factory made jointed pine door). Since I already sanded, stained and varnished the door, I am a bit wary of doing anything that might destroy it completely. Does anybody have any suggestion on how to enlarge the latch hole? The handle is a lock-less Weiser 25mm latch.

thank you,
Alexandre

You must be in the north provinces, we still don't use metric, well sometimes, down here. An older lockset here Might have been 2", where the current standard is 2 1/8. Since I use holes saws, it would really mess up a door without a guide, which I have made. A piece of plywood(2 actually-depending on the setback) with the proper size holes. I carefully center it on the old holes, clamp it, and use it as a guide to open the new hole. Works just fine. If the old hole was small, the bore for the latch is also likely too small.
