What size bifold doors?

Hi all,

I have a laundry area I'd like to dress up with some bifold doors. After doing a little research on this site, I can't come up with an answer, so I thought I'd ask here.

The drywalled, finished opening is 66" w x 81-1/2" h. I searched HomeDepot.com and found that the doors all come in 80" heights, but I can think I could install a shim for the top track. But they don't have 33" widths. Should I go with pair of 32" doors? Would I have to shim the sides, too, or is there enough wiggle room in the stated size for me to make up the two inches? My gut tells me custom bifold doors are too rich for my budget.

Thanks,
Warren

Warren: Welcome to the forums! I know it may look funky, but you could put a 30" and a 36" door, but you may still have to trim a little if your measurements are exact. I have done this in non focal areas in laundry rooms for customers.

Hi Chandler,

Thanks for the welcome I actually thought of that, but I live in a 1br/1ba condo, so everything's kind of a focal point

No, there's no wiggle room unless you leave gaps. A door marked 32" is actually about 31 1/2" wide, to allow clearance for the edges as it opens. To make it fit correctly you probably have 3 choices. One was already mentioned. The others would be to frame the opening down on the sides, or order custom. The height is no big deal, you'd probably need some extra clearance anyway.

Thanks, Gunguy45. So now I'm leaning toward 32" doors and ~1" shims for the sides. Anyone else have any input? This is not a priority job and I want to do it right.
