basement windows brands and quality....
I have 6 awuing style rotted out windows that measure your standard 15x32 size.
IM thinking im going with the small vinyl sliders that you see in the big box stores as opposed to a awuning or a hopper style.
Now for the question. I have been to lowes and they have the proper size window in stock in White. These are the PELLA THERMASTAR brand.
I bought one and roughed it in and it fits pretty good. I got to thinking it might be nice to get somthing light brown or brown to match the house so that would be a special order of the same window only in the desired color.
I have been reading online and these Thermastar windows are just getting slammed with horrible reviews. Mind you these are for the much bigger style window....not your small basement window. This pella is better than anything home depot or any other big box near me puts out as far as quality and is nice on the eyes as well.
I live in a climate that can go above 100 degrees as well as 30 - 40 below zero (gotta love minnesota).
I want a good quality window (anything is better than what i have now). I figure since im replacing my old windows.....i might as well get somthing good....and not another junker. I dont want to be scraping ice off them etc .....
Can anyone speak to the quality of these windows or should i look elsewhere since id have to special order the color id want anyway? I gotta figure that these small windows cant be all that different in quality but then again ....i dont know...thats why im here
IM not outside the idea of going with anderson or marvin.....etc etc. I just dont know if i need 14 karat...jewel encrusted vinyl basement sliders. I have heard that you get what you pay for when it comes to windows but then again...these small replacements.....these pella are far better than ive seen in the other big box stores around me.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

nobody? Usually somebody has an experienced opinion.
I went to a lumber yard today who deals in anderson windows and the person behind the counter didnt know what the hell i was talking about when i said basement windows and gave them the size i needed. Very inexperienced at there job i would say and not professional at all. They couldnt even give me more information on where to look myself if i wanted to do the research and the other lady behind the counter didnt have a clue....lots of stupid comments and she had no problem stuffing her face with her meal she was eating. Needless to say i wont be going there to order my windows

Very unusual to find such a person in a lumberyard, but a common thing to find such a person in a big box store.
To find basement windows, just do a search for "basement windows". You should gets lots of useful and also lots of useless information. But beware of some dealer info, they will taut their products as the best, when they may not be. There are usually not a lot of choices for basement windows, but you should look for double insulated glass, Lo-E/argon are benefits usually not available; a rot proof or resistant frame, usually vinyl is best; custom sizing to within 1/4" of your opening. Price should be about $100-150.
