Question Door trim

Doors are now painted and ready to install. When nailing the trim around the doors, do I nail them close to the edge so that the nails go in to the door frame? Or do I place the nails so they go in to the wallboard?

You usually leave a 3/16" reveal around the edge of the door jamb and nail the thin side of the casing to the jamb with brad nails. The thicker outside edge of the jamb is nailed through the wallboard to the wall studs with a larger/longer finish nail. I typically will nail the casing to the jamb every 12" or so, and nail to the wall every 16-24".
