Screen Deck to Enclosed Deck-window issue

I have a 10x14 screen deck that we are turing into an enclosed porch. I have 4 windows in the front and i need to add 3 more to the side. BUT the openings on the side are a 1/2 inch to small for the windows. Windows are 36 inches accross and the 3 openings are a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch to small

What can i do? Can i saw into the beam to cut out a 1/2 inch area so i can fit the window in? What kind of saw or tool should i use???

You said you needed to add 3 windows on the side, so I assume your illustration was to give us an idea as to what you want to do, although it only showed 2 windows. Cutting the vertical support is not usually a good idea. I know you have already purchased the windows, but could you exchange them for ones say 32" wide? It is always better to fill in than to cut out.

Yeah sorry illistration was off, after i finished i realized my error.

Thats the thing, we are putting in slider windows and they only come in 3x3, 2x2,1x1. Our others are 3x3. So our only option would be to use up and down windows, but we want it to look universal.

Ideas???

Thanks for the input, we are just going to settle with the up/down windows and sliders. Dont want to take on more then i need to

Help Identifying a Door Hinge!

Hi all, I've been trying to locate a particular door hinge. I've been to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware, but I have not been able to identify this particular door hinge finish. :wall: It's a standard 3 1/2" sized residential door hinge, with 1/4" radius on the corners. The shade is a kind of dull brass-ish looking finish, but it is not brass and it is not silver or nickel shade. Actually, to me it looks like some kind of a zinc coating. The finish has some faint pinkish areas along with the more green/yellow dull brass-looking areas. Anyway, I bet I can identify it if I find who manufactured it. The trouble is, I've tried online and at all the stores, and I can't find it. The stamp on the hinge says "Lawrence, U.S.A." on it. Above that text, there is a logo symbol. It is an L and a B with a square around it. I will try to duplicate it here: +---+ | |B | | +- | +---+ So the "B" kind of rests atop the "L" inside the square. Anybody know where this hinge came from? Thanks for any help, NanoGuy

Window Screens Will Not Go Back In (Total Frustration!!!)

About 4 years ago I made new screens for my 25-year-old aluminum single-hung windows. Used 5/16" thick frames with plastic corner parts and had no problems installing the new screens. The window channels are made such that the screens install from the inside. Yesterday I removed them so I could clean the outside upper panes , and now the *@! things won't go back into the upper channels. All 5 of them!! I remember when I made them they slid up into the upper channels quite nicely, now I have damaged 2 screens trying to cram them up there. What's the secret here - am I getting too old to do simple tasks anymore? It seems the plastic corners are now too thick to go into the channel. I even tried making a new narrow top frame rail (about 12" long) using leftover corners (brand new) and a straight section of one of the damaged frames and am having trouble getting that to go in as well. Is there something I'm forgetting to do (can't think of what that would be)?
